Sure. I agree with you that by employing the terms
"empowering/disempowering," I define my own agenda. And I hate both
shopping and consumer retail culture. :-) But how else can these words be
used, except in the subjective? They are perjorative terms and I can think
of no acceptably "detached" definition for them. I don't think we can
escape our own agendas - what, for instance, are the goals of the various
metaphors that we are employing?
