The
heart of the project is a number of exploratory interfaces designed
to give the users unlimited access to the intimate world of networked
communication infrastructures such as webcams, chat rooms and surveillance
cameras . Each interface sets out to visualise the same idea by using
different approaches in mapping network traffic and users information.
Each website has been realized through my collaboration with a different
team of programmers .
As its name suggests, taystes.net is a sampling of network
activity in real-time through different components. The 'grabber' crawls
through unlimited data networks of webcams and surveillance cameras;
the 'chatterbox', makes anonymous textual interventions into chat rooms
and through the 'tayster' tool, users can utilize data as a medium to
apply applications and create visual experiences. The sonic scape is
generated by tracking users activity, log in name and personal data
which transforms to sound modifiers.
By
logging on, the user's presence is automatically made visible on-line
and, although lurking behind
the veil of his or her on-line persona, inevitably becomes part of the
database, part of the viewed.
Under 'histories' each action is recorded and tracked, each action made
transparent. The viewer and user, who may have entered the space as
if into the <control room> to eavesdrop and to monito, in the
end becomes the subject of surveillance.
