They carry it with them as a protocol, from ancient Greeks who devised
intricate portable spaces for art, architecture, politics and language to
take with them as they set out for Sicily (the New World of its day) to
migrant workers (on the farm or in Silicon (V)Alley) today. And there were
guidebooks for medieval travellers as they ported from one gothic
computer/cathedral running on the chip of a saintly relic.
