No one in Florida says "uffda." When I was growing up in Montana not many
people said "uffda" either, but my family said it all the time, because
all our relatives living in North Dakota and Minnesota uttered this word
frequently. I realize now that life must have been pretty tough for them.
One of my old friends in Gainesville, who became a rabbi not too long ago,
says "oy vey" now and then. He uses it pretty much the way the NoDakers
used "uffda." the last time I was in the airport in Minneapolis, right
next to the T-shirt saying: "Minnesota--the land of 10,000 Lakes and One
fish"
there was a T-shirt saying "UFFDA." I wish I woulda bought it.
