A 1917 view of the two blocks bounded by Houston (top), Prince (bottom), Mott (left) and the Bowery (right). In terms of architecture, these blocks have changed little in the past 80 years; almost all of the buildings depicted are still standing.
The main exception is a new building now on Houston, spanning from Mott to Elizabeth; it replaced about a dozen of these older structures.
Note the L station at Houston and the Bowery, which was demolished in the mid-1950s.
