It was the largest bunch of coconut Padro had ever tried
to take on by himself at one time. In 36 years, since he
started cutting coconuts as a child of 7, he had never had
such a bunch!
The weight alone was breaking the branches.
Pedro used his foot to stablize the weight as he cut
the last tendons of fiberous pertrusion that held his
wonderful find.
Pedro couldn't see the bunch was still attached to palms
between him and the trunk of the tree. He screamed as the
spikes in the branches gave way, cuting through his pants,
into his legs, pulling him and the coconuts down from atop
the 3 story tree, to his crushing death below.
Rita and Carl were toasting with virgin Pina-Colatas to the
wonderful news that Rita was pregnant with Carls child.
Rita said the nurse thought that it would be a boy...
Carl said he would name him after his father. He and Rita
would tell his dad when he got home. Certainly his father
would not mind that Carl didn't go to work this day.
And even though his father was alway getting mad at Carl
for missing work, Carl felt his father would understand.
Carl really didn't do much anyway, he just waited around
catching stray coconuts and picking up loose frons for a
couple of extra peso. Carl thought,"Who could get mad at
the father of his grand-son, named Pedro.
