The Sonnabend Gallery is pleased to announce a show of new paintings by Ashley Blickerton.
Since 1993, Blickerton has been living and working in Bali, Indonesia.
Bickerton's figurative paintings painted with an obsessive attention to detail are part of a continuing narrative that developed out of references to exotic landscapes and themes of escape and redemption, shifting from anecdote to satire and from biography to autobiography.
The question of wheter we are artificial people has intrigued Bickerton for years. He takes great delight in genetic errors while keeping an eye on degeneration as an evolutionary process.
In these works dysfunctional characters pass starnge days with Stone Age natives and sophisticated monkeys in a place that time forgot.
