Anti-intellectualism is one of the worst forms that authoritarism can
assume. If people want to engaged in a serious theoretical discussion
it's super fine and you should be happy that they are taking things
seriously. But maybe your question was not completely ironic, in which
case: 

I do not have a Kantian answer but a Marxist-Hegelian-Debordian one: it
is all about the body turned spectacle, my friend, floating ominously in
an empire of commodities.
