      "...inherited from thousands of years ago..."
      "balungan" or "core" melody, a circle:
      Absolute Universe.

      But the
      aesthetic did not
      compel him for long.

      An overture to atrocities
      born in Yokohama; the
      co-existence of unrelated styles that
      commemorate the dead:
      concrete images,
      continuing association of
      cross-cultural dualism--
      enlightenment--
      evil spirits the
      final revelation:
      horrified fascination with an
      image of festivities;
      immobility on an
      indigenous ten-stringed instrument.

      Indonesian musical practices inferno at the
      United States premiere of
      Japanese musique concrète
      a kerosene labyrinth of
      man-made fire, a
      Mandala or
      Nirvana symphony of
      non-logical qualities and
      numerous commissions;
      an overtone system of temple bells, a
      percussion section and a
      pervasive element of
      pitched and non-pitched
      propulsive rhythmic structures mingled with
      pure tones
      pursuing "art"
      quite secretly.

      Scriptures, the
      sole crystallization in graphic form of Buddha's teaching, a
      strange recurrence of fire, a
      strong kinship;
      synthesized
      threnody for the dead,
      variations and transformations on/in a
      variety of media.
